EMPOWERING WOMEN FROM WITHIN

United Women's Platform for Empowerment and Development

Working with WHR—Women for Human Rights

Women for Human Rights (WHR) is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to addressing the rights of single women and creating justice and equitable a society where the lives of single women (widows) are strengthened and empowered since 1994. WHR has a nation-wide network of more than 2,000 single women’s groups with a membership base of over 100,000. WHR is working to empower single women economically, socially and politically all over Nepal.
Some members from WHR group learned Transcendental Meditation in April, 2015. At that time every Nepalese life was shaken and left unraveled with fear and struggle when the earth’s crust was hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which was followed by endless tremors. With the help of Dr. John Fagan and Susel Fagan we were able to teach TM in that group.

Kunda Sharma, Chairperson of WHR, shared the following experience with us:

“It has been four years since I started TM. There are so many positive changes I can feel. The most important thing is TM not only changed my lifestyle, it gave me new strength to work. As a result I became the chairperson of WHR. Now I can happily disseminate the importance of TM in our daily life and our professional life. TM changed my perception towards the people around me. TM gave me the idea of pre-planning of everything without any hurry at last moment, which has helped me in many circumstances/ I heartily thank you, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who sent me a lovely couple to connect me with Transcendental Meditation”

— KUNDA SHARMA, Chairperson

Earthquake Relief Program

In 2015, Nepal suffered from a heavy earthquake. At that time, Nepal Global Mother Divine Organization helped in three districts of Nepal: Nuwakot, Sindhupalchock, and Majhi Village where we donated and distributed household items, blankets, clothing, water purifiers, and daily use items like soap etc.

Three Sisters Trekking

In 2019 Certified Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation technique from Nepal GMDO taught TM to employees of Three Sisters Adventures Trekking. The office was built by three sisters, Lucky, Dicky, and Nicky Chettri, pioneers in the field of female guides. Three Sisters Adventure Trekking was established in 1994. In this organization, female travelers enjoy the opportunity to trek and interact with their female guides. Nepal GMDO was doing regular follow up with this group. We taught 25 staff of which 20 were women and 4 men.

Shri Shanti Mahila Samaj

This organization is located in Kathmandu, Buddhanagar. Nepal GMDO taught 28 women there and they are all very happy with their meditation. They all come in from group Meditation which is held on every Saturday at 8 a.m.

What Mothers Have to Say:

“Before TM I was getting angry so easily and fighting and acting any way that I felt in order to get relieved of anger; but now I’m more peaceful and have self-control and get along better with people.” (NS)

“Being a single mom, I had a lot of stress, because my child got sick often and I couldn’t take care of her or pay the house rent; and now that I have TM I am feeling better, less stressed, and started working selling mangoes and taking better care of my daughter.” (NC)

“Before TM my health was not good because I was so stressed and not working, and would quarrel and fight with my husband; and now I am feeling better, no longer stressed, and I feel peaceful and happy because I have a good job and I’m working.” (NS)

“Before TM I was tired because of family responsibilities with my husband and children, but now life she is much better. I am now rested and happy with my family, doing hairdressing training, and want to have my own salon.” (AJ)
